And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV
In today’s age, connectedness seems like a given, right? Then enters a pandemic. When Covid first ravaged the world, the enemy pounced on the opportunity to instill fear, promote isolation and initiate dissension everywhere (especially the church).
Though the initial jolt left us confused, separated, somewhat disconnected and frustrated…God had other plans. He wasn’t surprised by any of it. And true to what we know of His character, He worked for good what satan intended for evil. We were able to connect through online Bible studies, tune in from our homes and be part of the worship service. Though gathering in person was discouraged, we were able to talk and see our loved ones thanks to the advancements in the tech world. These were the positives, the silver linings, the glimmers of hope revealed through the cloud of a pandemic. But we would also be remiss not to mention the pain, loss and anger the Covid era caused. Many people are still recovering from the whirlwind.
What I’ve witnessed and heard in the last several months further proves He’s in the storm and He’s in the aftermath. Through adversity, He draws us closer — to Himself and one another. If we can put on a spirit of humility and allow His intervention to really take root, we see His love at work, true change take place and ultimately, we find unity.
I think many of us experienced a resurgence, realizing we weren’t given a spirit of fear or timidity. We weren’t told to keep our faith to ourselves. Rather, we are commanded to be bold, strong and courageous — especially in times of trial. Gathering together, encouraging one another, serving those in need, communing and praising our God collectively is part of our greatest commission. Until He returns or calls us home, let’s stand firm and steadfast together.
