Evidence of God’s Steadfast Love and Faithfulness

“He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.”
Psalm 98:3 English Standard Version

I can remember minute details of my life. I remember calling my brother “mom” as our family headed out for pizza. I remember racing sticks in the street gutter as if they were speed boats. I remember the look on my son’s face as I dropped him off at kindergarten, but it’s not easy for me to remember names, probably because it takes work.

God doesn’t have the same problem that I do. He has perfect memory recall. That might scare us. Immediately we think about how we’ve messed up. In an instant, God could recall all our failures and failings. If we can remember them, certainly God can.

“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”
Psalm 103:11-12 ESV

As perfect and holy as God is at remembering, he is also holy and perfect at forgetting. Through Christ all our sins have been forgotten, removed by God.

What God remembers is his steadfast love and faithfulness. Through Christ, God is not pointing a figure at you and telling you how bad you are, how you have messed up in your life. Through Christ God points you to his everlasting love and faithfulness. He made a promise to you and he keeps that promise.

It is through you and me that the world sees this salvation of God. Many of us remember Buzz Lightyear’s catch phrase, “To infinity and beyond.” That is how far God’s steadfast love and faithfulness reach into the world through his people doing what we have been called to do. We are the evidence of God’s steadfast love. We are the evidence of God’s faithfulness to the ends of the earth. God will not forget his steadfast love and faithfulness.
