“fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10 English Standard Version
At this time of year I seem to be surrounded on all sides by Autumn Lovers. People are constantly talking about how happy they are that the weather is turning cooler, how beautiful the fall leaves are, how excited they are to wear cozy sweaters, and how much they love the crisp fall air.
Despite the beauty of this fall picture, I am not one of these people. I much prefer spring and summer, when things are green and blooming. To me, the leaves are just an indication that everything is about to turn brown. The angle of the sun makes it feel like it’s trying too hard, and I get very irritable at how I’m freezing in the morning but too hot in the afternoon. Sorry to speak this blasphemy, but I do NOT like pumpkin spice. What it really comes down to, though, is that fall triggers my anxiety. The days getting shorter makes the world feel darker, and dread seeps in as I begin to worry not just about all the things I need to do, but also about the general mortality of humanity.
It is this time of year that I need the reminder most that God’s got this. Whatever the darkness is, He is in control. There are SO MANY verses in the Bible that tell us not to worry and not to fear, and I need those reminders. As the Isaiah verse states, God does not want me or you to be dismayed! He wants us to know that He is upholding us.
If you are like me, and you also struggle with anxiety this time of year, Google “Bible verses about worry,” and I hope you will be reminded as I am that God loves us and wants us to lean on Him!
