“We live by faith, not by sight. “
2 Corinthians 5:7
My Christian brother, Mick, has always had a strong faith in His Lord Jesus. However, three years ago he fell from a roof while working, suffering a terrible brain injury, and his faith was tested in ways he could never have foreseen. First, the physicians thought he would die, and he did not. Then they thought he would never awake, but he did. Then they thought he would never walk, but he did. Then they believed he would never see again, but in an absolutely miraculous way he has regained partial sight.
Although Mick continues to face tough challenges every day, and although he is diminished in what he can do physically, his faith in God has grown and grown. He would be the first to tell you, “I walk by faith, not by sight.” Literally, and figuratively, Mick’s trust in his Lord continues to give him strength, courage, and joy daily. Even as his eyesight dimmed, Mick’s faith has grown brighter and brighter. His witness to the Lord Jesus, and his love for Him, overflows in everything he says and does.
You might think that if you lose your sight you might be afraid of many things in this life. Many things you once did easily become scary challenges. However, in reality as you and I grow weaker, and less sure of ourselves, the Lord grants us more trust in Him, our Redeemer and our Light, so much so that the Lord said to Paul, who had a chronic “thorn in the flesh”, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
For as Mick would gladly tell you, “We walk by faith, not by sight!” Amen.
