“I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
Isaiah 46:4 New International Version

Have you noticed that you treat your possessions better than others treat them? Have you noticed that you treat your own possessions better than you treat others’ possessions?

In Isaiah, God reminds us that He is our Creator. He has an intimate love with us in that He formed us, He spoke us into existence, He made us. He knows us deeply and personally.

God’s love was exhibited when He made us, when He sent His Son to save us, and through His continual involvement in our lives.

He Made You

He promises in this verse to carry us, sustain us, and rescue us. The definition of “carry” is to support one from one place to another. “Sustain” means to bear the weight of, keep from giving way, or endure without yielding. “Rescue” means to deliver from confinement, violence, danger, or evil; it also means to liberate.

We saw these very actions in the mission of Jesus’ life on earth, Jesus’ ministry with the people He encountered, and His ultimate sacrifice of succumbing to death on the cross. He supports us; He bears our weight, even into death; and He has paid the price of our ultimate liberation.

These deliberate actions show how much God cares for us. All of what He did and what He continues to do for us is rooted in His perfect love for us. He truly wants what’s best for us. He ultimately wants our lives and our hearts to be fully with Him in all we do.
