Choosing the Right Door

What Door Should I Choose?

There was a TV game show where contestants had to choose one of three doors for a chance to win a valuable prize. But there was a catch. There was always something unwanted, like a goat, behind one door. A lesser prize like a year’s worth of popcorn, or a much nicer prize like a set of kitchen appliances was behind a second door. Then there was the choice prize, a new car, behind another door. You had to make the correct choice in order to win.

“Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
Psalm 37: 5, 23-24 New Living Translation

We choose many doors throughout life. Which schools to attend, which profession to pursue, where to live, what church to join, when to have a serious conversation—the choices seem endless, confusing and frightening. When a choice must be made, we long to see a note from God posted on a door that says, “Choose Me!”

Although we may not receive that direct communication from God, we can make decisions in line with His will. He gives us the freedom to choose, just as He allowed men and women of the Bible to think, reason and make their own choices. Although we are free in Christ, God wants us to make choices pleasing to Him, not just ourselves. By searching Scripture, seeking wise guidance and researching options we can make informed decisions that please God.

What if we choose the wrong door? Even if we choose incorrectly, God loves us and is for us. He uses every experience to shape us to become more like Him. Choose a door with confidence, because God is with you every step of the way!
