We are chosen by God because we are precious to him.

“Therefore do not become partners with (the sons of disobendience); for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…”
Ephesians 5:7-8 English Standard Version (ESV)
Our daughter adopted him this week, and he’s part of our family. He has a warm bed, food and water, and enrichment is coming in one toy at a time. He looks snappy in his collar, which sports a bowtie.
Lisa and I watched him online, and she called to see when he was going up for adoption. We’ve looked at cats for a long time, and for some reason this one tugged at her heart, as well as mine. So far, he’s making the adjustment to living with us. He plays a little, chats a lot and loves to be petted.
However, when night falls, he starts meowing and pawing at the door. He wants to go outside, which is what he seems accustomed to doing. He has an urge to return to his old ways, wandering outside at night.
Our faith walk, at times, resembles Bonkers’ new life. We have comfort in the arms of God, who loves us very much. God has known that, since before we were born, we were destined to be with him. He wants us to stay close to him, under his protection.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2 ESV
The temptation to explore the darkness can, at times, be difficult to resist. Bonkers can’t resist going outside, and he can’t understand why he needs to stay indoors. However, we can understand that God wants us to stay in the Light, where we can shine as part of the light. Trust that God’s way is the best way, and rest in his peace.
