Coffee — The Key to Surviving a Pandemic

Finding Satisfaction in Jesus

Nothing lifts the feeling of dread more than a good cup of joe, right? If I were to write a survival guide to a pandemic, the first chapter would be about the importance of a cup of coffee.

My routine in the morning has been much the same throughout this pandemic. I get out of bed somewhere around 4:30 a.m., feed the animals, and then make a cup of coffee. While the coffee is brewing, I set up for my morning devotions.

I’m not sure that I would survive these early hours if I didn’t have a cup of coffee, but is a cup of java what really makes a difference? It wasn’t what a woman who met Jesus at a well needed.

Jesus replied [to the woman], “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
John 4:13-14 New Living Translation

Every morning I have to repeat the routine of making coffee and drinking it. However, it is Jesus that truly satisfies my longing in this pandemic-laden world. It is the time I spend with my heavenly Father that renews my soul each morning. Nothing else touches me like the grace of God in Jesus.

Satisfaction is found in Jesus, the living water, not in any other kind of “water” we might drink to satisfy our thirst.

It is Jesus’ death and his resurrection, it is the power of God’s love, that satisfies. I pray that you would drink deeply of this water today and throughout the time of your earthly journey.
