“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6 New International Version

This verse starts out with the word “confident.” Paul shares this message in a manner that shows he is fully convinced. There is no wavering, no shaking. He is convicted. He is confident of this gospel message. No matter the persecution and hardship and loneliness He had to endure because of His faith in Christ Jesus, He is confident that God is at work and that God is good.

Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.’”
John 6:29 NIV

The good work mentioned is the work of God. It is salvation. The work of God is redemption. This redemption is of unwavering permanence, just as our God is constant and unchanging in who He is.

On the cross as Jesus breathed His last breath, He said “It is finished.” He spoke these words when Jesus’ work of redemption came to completion. Jesus carried out His work. God will now also complete the work of redemption in our lives.

God is redeeming our souls. He began that work in the past, He is redeeming us day by day, and He will continue His work of redemption until the day when Jesus comes back. The work has begun, the work is in the present, the work will be carried into the future. Past, present, and future. We will one day be fully reunited with our heavenly Father, fully redeemed.

God cares so deeply about us, His children. He is involved in our lives and in our redemption story. Through the mountains and the valleys, God has been with us, walking alongside us as we grow and struggle and learn.

God’s grace is the source of our redemption. His love and mercy are enduring.

“We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 NIV
