“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom..”
Luke 12:32 English Standard Version

The announcement came two weeks ago, “There will be snow in Portland!”  Immediately fear gripped thousands of people.  There was great wringing of the hands and constant worry about the freezing of pipes and the slippery roads and a general “What shall we do?” among the populace.  You would have thought that snow was a terrible natural disaster like a hurricane or a terrible epidemic that would kill thousands of people.  There was fear and worry everywhere.

And of course the snow came as predicted and after a few days of discomfort the rain settled back in and the snow went away and no one died.

Do you have unreasonable fear in your life?  Fear about terrible things that might happen?  Sickness, death, economic disaster, wars, suffering?  Of course, all of these things can and do happen to people.  But for the believer there is this word, “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”  Do not be afraid, God has got this.

For those who have been redeemed in our Lord Jesus Christ there is no reason to live in fear.  The Father has chosen to give you the kingdom.  He has chosen to give up His own Son so that you might have eternal life.  He has chosen to have mercy upon you so that you might have forgiveness and peace in Him.  He has chosen to love you so that no matter what this world throws at you, you are safe in Him.

We rest in Jesus, in His love, in His promises, in His salvation, in His power and might.  We rest in Him and we let go of the worry and the fear and the trepidation about living in this world.  The Good Shepherd has given you the kingdom.

Have no fear!
