Deceived

Know the truth and walk in it

One thing I have learned while living here in Colorado is that you can’t trust the plants. I have lived in many other places before this and it was a pretty common rule that when trees began budding and plants started sprouting out of the ground, winter was at its end. This is simply not true here. We are warned to not plant anything before Mother’s Day, and even then we are taking risks. Snow, frost, and hail storms are still possible.

I took this picture of lovely new blooms on my pear tree last week. I took some snapshots because I had no idea how long the blooms might last. Sure enough, we are expecting snow late tonight and tomorrow. It is May, blooms are on the trees and spring flowers are popping out of the ground, but that doesn’t mean winter is over. I cannot trust what I see, so I have learned to trust what I know.

The same principle applies in our Christian walk. Our circumstances, and the people that surround us may lead us to believe false things about God and what He is doing. It is far too easy to be led astray by comforting or wise seeming words that mimic sound teaching. Perhaps you have caught yourself following someone who claimed to be Biblical, but eventually you realized that their teachings were a little bit off. It is important that we examine what we learn and where we learn it.

“But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 3:13-15 New American Standard Bible

God’s Word teaches us truth. The best way to discern truth is by consistently reading the Bible. God has given you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Do not be deceived, walk in the truth that you know.
