Stoking the fire of our faith is critical for keeping it fresh and engaged. Experiencing desperation for God can be the answer to awakening our heart to seek God. Approaching God sometimes comes out of difficulties in our life such as an unexpected death, a ruptured relationship, or wayward children. Through the brokenness of the world and the deprivation that Satan provides us, there is a quiet nudge in the Kingdom to see beyond our circumstances and begin looking for the one Savior that can heal and make us whole.

I’m desperate, Lord! I throw myself upon you, for you alone are my God! My life, my every moment, my destiny—it’s all in your hands. So I know you can deliver me from those who persecute me relentlessly.”
Psalm 31:14-15 The Passion Translation

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Matthew 5:6 English Standard Version

When we are going through a situation that catapults us toward pain, it is a blessing, whether we feel it or not. Feelings and emotions can override the steps to connect with God and some can stay stuck in the pain. When we realize that there is a way to increase our relief by latching on to God, the process is not so paralyzing.

David exemplifies the desperation of needing God in his life, and he deeply desired to feel God’s presence.

“How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?”
Psalm 13:1-2 English Standard Version

If you find that you are stuck or feeling like you’re going in circles of despair, reach out to God to connect with him in your brokenness. Jesus will meet you right where you are, in whatever situation you are in. Peace, hope, and love are all available through the Holy Spirit.
