Different, but How Different?

Equally Different

When gazing at windows stacked one on top of another, it appears that each window is unique while at the same time looking similar.

These windows were probably manufactured by the same company and have the same dimensions. One window is like the one above it. What makes them different is the refection in each window. Because of this reflection, it is impossible for one window to look exactly like the other. What also makes them different is what’s present on the other side of the window; what’s in the window and how far the curtain is drawn.

There is something familiar as we move from one human to another. We have eyes, ears, noses and a mouths. We have legs and arms. Yet there is something quite distinct about each of us. No one person is like another. Even though some of us have blonde hair, we don’t shape it the same. Even though we might grow a beard, we trim it differently. Even though we have two legs, we walk differently. There are many things that make us similar so that we recognize that we are human yet there are many other things that make us distinct from each other.

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Psalm 139:14 English Standard Version

Not only are their physical characteristics that we share as Christians, there are spiritual characteristics that we have in common. As humans, all of us have fallen into sin and all of us are equally redeemed by Christ. No matter how different we look, we share these characteristics.

Even though we share these common characteristics, we are each “fearfully and wonderfully made.” The Potter has fashioned each one of us to be who we are. We are not accidents. We are works of art, you are a work of art. You are person for whom Jesus died. You are a person who is cherish by God.

May you walk through your day in awe of this God who made you and redeemed you.
