Did that statement cause excitement because your heart is ready for a celebration of God’s promise fulfilled? Or did it create panic because you’re not prepared for the earthly celebration?

I’m sure Mary wasn’t ready for the birth of her first child, especially when she found herself about to give birth in a strange place, and her husband as the sole source of support for the birth. And though she knew she was giving birth to the Messiah, she wasn’t totally sure what that meant for her or her child. She only knew that what had been promised for hundreds of years was about to come true and she was chosen to be part of it. She believed the same promise we were given.

“You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”
Luke 2:31-33 New Living Translation

I know a family who wraps the baby Jesus in Christmas paper and places Him in front of all other presents under the Christmas tree. He is the very first gift they open, and they take time to reflect on the precious gift born on Christmas Day, a Savior given to us by a Heavenly Father. He’s the most precious present anyone will ever receive.

As you wait for the Light of the World to come, devote some time to fully ponder the birth of Jesus and what it means for you. Have no fear if you’re not ready for the events of Christmas. Don’t block His light from your soul by worrying about accomplishing your plans. Celebrate the most precious moment in time that changed the world and your future forever! Let His light be your light this season.
