Empty Words!

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him.  That is why we utter our Amen to God for his glory.”
2 Corinthians 1:20 English Standard Version

Many people’s promises are merely empty words.  They say they will do much, but they deliver nothing.  “You can trust me, I’ll do that for you,” they say, but they do not keep their word.  And in these empty, broken promises come heartache and hurt and bitterness and hardness of heart.

God is completely different than that.  God always delivers on His promises.  Every word of God is true and every promise He makes will come to fruition.  When God makes a promise, you can rely on it.

How do we see that most clearly?  We see that fulfilled most clearly and emphatically in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus the promises of God all find their Yes, their fulfillment, their deliverance.  In Jesus there is freedom for the captive, forgiveness for the sinner, love for the loveless.  In Jesus there is healing for the sick, release for the demoniac, cleansing for the stained.  In Jesus there is life for the dead, peace for the tormented, a home for the lost.

God promised a Savior and He delivered His own Son on the cross.  God promised a Suffering Servant and He sent His beloved Son to Calvary.  God promised to love you with an everlasting love and in Christ Jesus we meet God’s love for us in His scarred hands and feet.

Can you count on God’s promises or are they just empty words?  “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of God endures forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)  In Christ Jesus all God’s promises come together.  He who did not spare His own Son will withhold nothing from His beloved children.  Praise God for all His promises that are Yes in Christ Jesus!
