Even the Rocks

As God’s creation declares His glory, we also worship our risen Lord and Savior.

But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, ‘Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!’
He replied, ‘If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!’”
Luke 19:39-40 New Living Translation

The Pharisees moved to silence Jesus’ followers when they saw how excited the people were at His arrival in Jerusalem. They were hoping that the words of this man who called himself the Messiah would fizzle out, as others who declared they were the Son of Man had done before Him. But the people knew something was special about Jesus, and so they worshipped Him. Jesus tells the Pharisees that these people were expressing great joy at the coming of their King, and that if the crowd didn’t fill the air with praise, then the rocks God created would proclaim His glory.

We know the praises didn’t last and the shouts of joy turned to shouts of “Crucify Him!” Yet when Jesus died, the creation reacted. The earth shook and rocks split apart as though to respond to the ultimate power of Jesus’ sacrifice. Yet another earthquake filled the morning when the stone was rolled aside from the tomb revealing Jesus had risen from the dead! God’s creation couldn’t stay silent at the resurrection of our Lord.

Have you ever experienced love for the risen Savior so intense that you can’t contain yourself and must immediately worship Him? Resurrect that Easter joy in your heart and worship the Christ who rescued you, redeemed you, and loves you as His special creation.
