Fear no Evil

God overcomes evil with good

When I was a little girl I had a lot of fear. I struggled to sleep when I saw shadows with unknown sources at night, did not trust new people I met, and feared things under my bed or the couch grabbing my feet and dragging me away. Far greater than those things was the overarching paranoia that someone would try to kidnap me. I had an active imagination, so when my parents and school were teaching “stranger danger” I thought up multiple ways those terrible people could attempt to lure children. Everyone was a suspect, especially those who were supposed to be considered safe. After all, what better way was there to lure children away from safety than to appear safe?

We all tend to have different visions of what evil looks like. For some it is embodied in zombies, aliens, vampires, and other monsters of movies and literature. There is comfort in knowing that evil is tangible and easy to identify. For others, it lurks in the shadows of darkness, unseen and mysterious. Still they’ll know when they’re encountering it by the prickles that run up their spine. Worst of all, are those who have encountered evil in real life through someone they know who is all too human, tangible, and seen.

We do not like to believe that evil is real and tend to push the idea aside as an imaginary flight of fancy while looking for rational explanations behind every encounter. However, the Bible informs us that evil is an active part of our world. As God’s people we are at war with the enemy and His evil purposes.

We are not left alone to fight evil. God equips us for every battle and protects us from harm. God is greater than any evil that attempts to inhibit us from fulfilling His purpose.

“The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
2 Timothy 4:18 New International Version

Evil exists, but we do not need to fear it. Instead, trust in the Lord for He is good!
