He Bore Our Sin

“And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through His own blood. Let us, then, go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.”
Hebrews 13:12 -13 New International Version

This mosaic at the beginning of the Way of Suffering in Jerusalem is located at the spot where the governor, Pilate, ordered Jesus’ crucifixion.  As Jesus was led out to Calvary, crowds followed Him.  Some were weeping, some were jeering, some were just curious at the sight of an innocent Man being sent to His death.

I invite you today to follow Jesus to the cross.  To join Him on that walk of agony as He bore the sins of the world upon the cross He carried.  The fate of the world hung upon this one act, the Sacrifice of God’s own Son sent to die for you and me.

Follow Jesus outside the city walls to a hill called Golgotha, the Place of the Skull.  Watch the soldiers pound the nails through His hands and feet.  Watch them raise the cross and leave Him hanging there.  Follow to the foot of the cross with his mother, Mary, and Mary Magdalene, and His beloved disciple John.  Watch Him cry out seven times; forgiving, giving, praying, proclaiming.  Hear Him breathe His last and commit Himself to His Father.  Watch Nicodemus and Joseph take His body down and wrap it in linen cloths.  Follow them and the women to the tomb where they laid His body.

Let us stand there and confess our sins, releasing them to His blood won forgiveness.  Let us follow Him wherever He will lead us, forgiven and cleansed in His Sacrifice.  Let us follow Him…
