“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4: 7-8 New Living Translation
This photo is of my mother-in-law, Jennie, who passed away in September of this year. Her 95 years on this earth were filled with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an animated storyteller, made the most delicious tortillas, and prayed fervently every day for everyone she knew. She cherished her family, and they loved her.
Today is All Saints’ Day. It’s a day when we remember our loved ones who have gone before us, and give thanks to God for them. This day was originally a commemoration of the martyrs of the ancient church (the men, women, and children who were persecuted and killed for their faith in Christ). Now it is a day to also remember, and emulate, all the Christian faithful who were examples of strength, love, and courage. It’s a day to be thankful for the blessings they brought to our lives.
As I think of Jennie (and you remember the lives of your loved ones today), take comfort and be joyful that we will be with them again, because Christ won the victory over death and we now live with Him forever!
