In Every Pool…

“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:19
When we hiked into Butte Creek Falls, I found this lone fisherman casting his line into the pool at the base of the falls. Then he tried a little further downstream, and then down below the next falls. He wasn’t satisfied with staying in one pool. He tried them all!
When Jesus calls you to be a fisher of men, He asks you to begin by bringing the Good News about Jesus to those closest to you. Then as you become more confident with sharing about the Lord Jesus, He calls you to try other pools, and other circles of people, that you know. We begin by sharing with those friends and relatives closest to us, then co-workers and acquaintances, and then people the Lord brings to you in many and various ways.
How many times have I “fished” with a person next to me on an airplane, where I tried casting out into the conversation we were having with a mention of spiritual values and deeper subjects? If I get a “bite”, an interest from that person, I then share more deeply and ask more, and more, questions. Often, before we get to the end of our journey, I have had the opportunity to not only share the saving love of the Lord Jesus, but often I am able to pray with that person for God’s working in their life.
Not every cast that a fisherman makes ends in a bite, and not every bite ends in a catch, but still this Gospel fisherman will go on casting out into deep waters wherever the Lord places me that day. May the Holy Spirit direct you in your Gospel fishing today, and everyday, that all might know the Savior’s love!
