Gone but Never Forgotten

by Desiree Bustamante

When the things of this world end, we will receive the most precious gift of all in Christ.

“The life of mortals is like grass,
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
the wind blows over it and it is gone,
    and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children”

Psalm 103:15-17 New International Version

Have you ever enjoyed a special meal, and then you discovered that the restaurant went out of business? We enjoyed driving to a family-owned restaurant in Pueblo where we used to eat amazing Huevos Rancheros with green chile. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, it closed and never reopened. Often when that happens it’s very hard to find a replacement, and we haven’t found a breakfast that amazing yet.

We experience this often in our life on earth. Old favorites depart, friends move away, children grow up, people grow old. Eventually we will all pass from this earth, but we do not need to fear that we will die alone. The longings of this world will disappear in the eternal love found in our Lord Jesus Christ, who will exist forever. Our faith in Him assures us that though our lives will end, and no one may remember us in a hundred years, we will rest in the arms of Jesus’ love in the place He has prepared for us to be with Him forever.

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 14:2-3 New International Version
