Seek God for the answer

The other day I took a couple of my kids to the bookstore. While my daughter made her selections, I followed the baby around to keep him out of her way. I took a quick snapshot of him in front of a bookcase. Later, I opened up the picture on my phone. When we were at the store I was too busy to actually look at the book titles. I had no idea that my son was perusing the political section.

The titles behind my son are indicative of the society in which he is growing up. They make me question the world we are developing for the next generation.  The United States is in flux driven by a strong political divide. It is even difficult to have political discussions with people we love because of how toxic a simple conversation can quickly turn. What needs to be done to calm the wave of anger fueled ugliness that spreads from sea to shining sea?

Some reading this blog are already forming answers in their minds. Fingers are uncurling and getting ready to point. Maybe a title in this picture has blood pressures rising.

It does not matter what we think. As Christians, we are commanded to look to God for the answer. I’ve heard many Christians expound on what they believe God wants for this country, and these opinions are conflicting. Here is what God’s Word says,

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 English Standard Version

God is not telling us to point fingers at other Christians. non-believers, or political leaders. This passage specifically tells us to examine ourselves. We are to humble ourselves, not humiliate others. We are to pray and seek God, rather than looking for someone to blame, then, turn from our wicked ways. Church, allow God to heal you. Place your anger and hurt into His hands. As each one of us abides in God’s love, that wave will cover our land for future generations.
