Heartache and Hopefulness

God gives us hope and a purpose even in distressing times.

“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 New Living Translation

This abandoned, decaying old mill looks ominous on a cloudy day, especially in the bleakness of winter. Every day seems to bring news of frightening events and untold tragedies. Acts that highlight the darkness of hate, selfishness, despair, and a literally decaying world fill the media. On seeing the aftermath of these events, we may find it difficult to accept the reality of sin destroying the world when God doesn’t step in to save it as we would like.

We live each day with heartache at what this world has become, and yet feel hopeful when God steps in through His people to help. We know God’s ultimate plan is for all people to accept Him as Savior and Lord. He also promised to return and bring us safely home. Yet we still see everything on this earth through the lens of our imperfect understanding.

Though our knowledge is partial and incomplete, God assures us that He is in control of all things, knows us completely and watches over us always. Do not despair. Focus on His purpose for you, to be His light in the world no matter what happens. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you an unshakeable confidence, enduring faith in God’s sovereign plan and an abiding love for others.

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
1 Corinthians 13:7 New Living Translation
