“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11 New INternational Version

Spending this past winter in the mountains of Colorado, I have lived many days in seemingly endless snow. It finally feels like Spring is truly here. The rainstorms have begun in the evenings and the evidence of the past months of moisture are showing through. For the first time in a long time, green surrounds us and wildflowers are sprouting.

The snow and the rain have a purpose. They create the moisture for growth. The cold that must be endured is not in vain.

This Scripture compares God’s Word with the precipitation from the heavens. There is a purpose and the evidence appears in due time. God’s Word is evident all around us. In creation, in our conscience, in the love that flourishes around us. The words that are spoken and the fingerprints of God surround us.

How encouraging that the Word of the Lord will not return empty. We may not always see the changes. We may not always see the flowers bud. But we can rest assured that the Holy Spirit will continue the work. The desire of God and His intended purpose will not wither away. It is a promise and a testament of the power of God.

There is an abundance of love in the Gospel message. It pours down on us and spreads. It flows continually to no end. God’s desire is that all His children are saved and are in a relationship with Him. He pursues us and all of humanity. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. Nothing can stand in the way of The Gospel, of God’s desire, and the purpose for which God sends His Word.
