Hidden Treasure

You are God’s treasured possession.

I have recently become familiar with the hobby of toy collecting. People of all ages spend money, and time, on toys that are precious to them. Some collectors purchase because of nostalgia, connecting with things that remind them of their childhood. Sometimes a parent gave their favorite toy away, or they couldn’t afford it when it was popular. They seek them out at garage sales, antique stores, flea markets, and toy swaps. They buy, sell, and trade online. It is amazing to discover the worth of some of the smallest toy parts. Weapons may be worth as much, or even more, than the figures they go with.

You can see in this picture many past, and present, toys. Some people might not value any of these, while others may examine this grouping and see treasures they wish they owned. There are both new, and old, toys mixed up here, yet the collector sees value, and purpose, for each one.

“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth”
Deuteronomy 7:6 English Standard Version

Read that scripture again, slowly. God chose you to be His treasured possession, holy to Him. Sometimes it is easier to apply God’s Word to other people than to ourselves. Perhaps you saw that this scripture is from the Old Testament and determined that it is aimed only at the Israelites. Maybe you saw the word “holy” and automatically excluded yourself.

Child of God, you are His treasured possession. God created you to be His own. When sin separated you from Him, He went through great lengths to seek you out and save you. He paid the full price of your sin in order to bring you back again.  Although you may feel like an insignificant part of His creation, you are of great value to Him. Submerge yourself in the fullness of His love for you.
