“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all- surpassing power is from God and not from us.”
2 Corinthians 4:7 New International Version

While visiting the Rice Rock Museum, I encountered this 300 pound thunder egg.  Formed by volcanic lava, the “egg” looks like an odd conglomerate with no beauty or luster.  But if you were to split the rock open, you would find a beautiful reflective gem, unique and arresting.

This is how Saint Paul describes you as a follower of Jesus Christ.  We are only “jars of clay”, but on the inside we reflect the light and glory of Jesus Christ.  The Lord Jesus lives in us and enlightens our lives, so that we give out the light of our Lord, proclaiming and showing His glory.

We may only be literally jars of clay, made up of some mundane elements, but it is the power of God that gives us life, light, joy, and peace.  We may be wearing out on the outside but inside we are being renewed day by day by the Holy Spirit working in us.

Does the devil, the world and your own weak flesh trouble and torment you?  Do you feel that you can go no further and that the trials of life are crushing you?  Don’t be afraid!  The light of the world lives in you and nothing will overpower you, nothing will conquer you, for Jesus is the Treasure that no one nor anything can ever take away!

Just like the thunder egg, God has made you and redeemed you in Jesus Christ to reflect His glory in your own unique, one-of-a-kind way.  And the weakness and pain you may bear only serves to show His power and love all the more to a world that desperately needs Him. For the hidden Treasure of Jesus is worth more than all the gems, jewels, and riches that this world has ever seen.

Jesus is your Treasure!
