“Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them.
He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”
Luke 24:13-15, 25-27 New Living Translation
After Jesus’ death, the disciples thought all was lost—their Savior, their life, their future. But Christ was still walking with them and they were about to discover this truth, that what they thought was Jesus’ plan was really their lack of understanding. When Jesus explained everything, the disciples were awestruck as they began to comprehend Christ’s fulfillment of God’s promise.
We hold firm to God’s power, believing He will answer our prayers. Then, when we think the answer we want is near, we discover that it’s not unfolding as we hoped. Confused and discouraged, we question His power. We were certain that what we prayed for was in God’s plan, just as the disciples knew that Jesus was coming as their earthly king. When that hope fell apart and He was crucified, they fell into despair.
Never allow frustration or disappointment to derail your trust in Christ’s awesome power. He fulfills His perfect plan, which you may never see on this side of heaven, yet a plan that always furthers His kingdom. And because He loves you, He hears all your fervent prayers and knows every desire of your heart. You can trust Him, even when the road ahead is uncertain.
