“Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.  Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”
Psalm 90:1-2 English Standard Versio

Over the last weeks I have been realizing how short life is and how tenuous our hold on it is.  I just experienced three funerals in a three week period, including my mother-in-law’s memorial service.  I experienced many emotions; loss, sadness, love, sorrow, and many more.

But my primary experience from these multiple losses was a profound sense of my life being so very temporary.  My life is like grass that grows up in the morning and by evening it is cut down and withers away!  When I was young I felt like I had so much time and so many years ahead.  Now, time seems to be rushing by and I will soon be gone!

But my hope is not in my existence here on earth.  My hope is not in holding on to the few short years that I have left before I die.  My hope is in an eternal, almighty God who existed before time began and will be here forever and ever.  And even more importantly, He is a God who has welcomed me into His love and mercy.  In Jesus Christ, the Lord has asked me to dwell with Him forever and ever.  He has brought me into His family and given me an eternal inheritance.

In Jesus, I have a home and a life that exists beyond time and beyond this short existence on earth.  In Jesus Christ I have a forever home and a forever family and forever plan.  Praise God who is from everlasting to everlasting!
