Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 ESV

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 ESV

I was waiting for a family photoshoot at Colorado College’s Heritage Gardens. I sat beneath the artsy archways for a moment, taking in my surroundings. They reminded me of those seasons in life when we feel “stuck” in the in-between. And yet, there was beauty all around.

It’s easy to become consumed with the here and now; to narrow the focus on our “stuff” and maintain tunnel vision. When we are waiting for an answer to prayer, time can feel cruel. Sure, it’s easy to praise and maintain an attitude of gratitude when things are going according to “our plan.” But what about when we don’t receive answers, and we’re just stuck in the meantime?

Jesus cautioned that we will, without a doubt, face trouble. We continue to see evil wreak havoc on this temporary home. The brokenness we face and feel can leave us heartbroken. We often long to just land unscathed on the other side of our struggles. As His Word consistently and insistently implores: we are to cling even tighter when the going gets tough.

God is constantly by our side and at work. We may not always see it. We might feel alone or even helpless at times. But He never leaves or forsakes us. While we wait for Him, we cling with all our might, pray fervently, read what He says, praise His name and seek His will. He will show up. He will fight for us. In the meantime…may we take full advantage of all He has to offer and the ways He is transforming our hearts along the way.

“Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance, but laying hold of His willingness.” -Martin Luther
