“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
Amos 5:24 English Standard Version
There is much injustice in this world. Sometimes it is hard to wake up every morning and hear more bad news. It doesn’t always have to come from the media; perhaps you have been wronged, or you are dealing with the aftermath of losing a friend or a family member. In any case, do you sometimes feel like you want to do something about it? Wouldn’t you like to take matters into your own hands?
That is not our job. Every single one of us is fallen. Every single one of us has wronged someone else. We cannot be completely objective and unbiased judges; sometimes we make the wrong call.
But God never does. God is the one and the only perfect, holy, righteous judge. He always makes the right call.
Then why are things still so disorderly here on earth? God’s plan has not come to completion yet, but when Christ returns, the record will be set straight across the board, once and for all.
It may seem that life is unfair sometimes, and we would like to see immediate judgment. But God is patient with us. Thank goodness he does not dish out immediate justice every time we mess up. We would be wise to take on the attitude of David, when he had Saul right at his fingertips as Saul was on a mission to track down and kill David. The tables were turned on Saul, and David had the easiest opportunity to take Saul down. It was as if God had delivered Saul over to David.
David did not execute judgment.
“May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.” 1 Samuel 24:12 New International Version
Let us not execute our own judgment, for our God is perfect in His judgment. Let us love our neighbor and our enemy, that they may come to faith in Christ.
