Wake Up

And Smell the Light!

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1, English Standard Version

I am a morning person, but I also love a good cup, or two, of coffee to get me going. It doesn’t have to be a fancy brand. It just has to get me moving. I enjoy mine with a bit of flavored creamer.

What gets you motivated in the morning? Do you like to go for a run to clear your head, and get energized? Would you rather meditate, and read scripture, to calmly direct your day? Or, are you like many of us who hit the snooze button a few times before forcing yourself up for the daily grind?

Isaiah calls us to rise and shine for the glory of the Lord. We are not to slumber and relish the darkness of life, but rather to awaken our souls to do what the Lord has planned for us. We must be vigilant, and always ready to answer the call whatever that may be on any given day.

Truthfully, some days it feels challenging to get motivated to get out of bed. I have had days when the darkness in my heart keeps me from doing that which I have been called to do. Often, the troubles of this world leave me feeling emptied, tired, and frayed.

Lord, may I always feel your constant presence and call to live in the light. Let me remember that though there be darkness in the night, joy will most surely light my soul in the morning.

“For you are all children of light, children of the day.
We are not of the night or of the darkness.
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.”

1 Thessalonians 5:5-6, English Standard Version

  1. Love this Bible verse to keep me motivated on those mornings when I also feel anxious about challenges I face. Thank you!
