“…unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.  But if it dies it produces many seeds.”
John 12:24 New International Version

A seed is an amazing thing. You take a seed from last year’s plant, put it in the ground and it produces new life. Amazing! A seemingly dead potato sprouts and grows! A hard little organic container sprouts up and produces a whole crop!

This is how our Lord Jesus looked at Himself. He had to die and be put into the ground so that he could bring new life, not just to Himself, but to many, many people, for all who believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and put their trust in Him for eternal life will be saved. This is the first great miracle of God’s plan, that the Father would send the Son into this world to die for us sinners, that many would believe and be saved.

In His great mercy, He has saved us!

And the second great miracle is that the Son came willingly, sacrificing Himself for our sakes. He did not love His life but gave it up so that many could live!

And Jesus calls you and me to follow Him, to give up our lives to God, to gladly bear witness and risk losing all things in this world for the sake of His name, to commit all things to Him and ask Him to use our lives for His purpose that many would be saved and be given life.

Lord Jesus, thank you for giving up your life so that I might be saved. Give me faith to follow you and to give up all things for the sake of your Good News! Amen.
