Like the Morning Mist

“I (the Lord) have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.  Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
Isaiah 44:22 New International Version

The mist settles upon the valley during the long night.  In the morning it lays there, covering the ground and obscuring and chilling everything under its control.  But then the sun suddenly rises and in a matter of moments disperses the gloomy, dark mist.  A new day has dawned!

I have watched this same phenomenon here in the Willamette Valley a thousand times,  a somber morning mist being dispersed by the sun’s rays.  This morning it struck me that my sins are just like that cold, confusing, somber mist that darkens and spoils everything around it.  But the Sun of Righteousness has risen in my life, dispersing sin and healing my sin sick soul!

The world lays under the spell of sin and death, but our Lord Jesus has swept away sin upon His cross and dispersed death in His resurrection.  Because Jesus has taken away our sin, we can return to the Lord our God and stand before Him in His glory and the light of His righteousness.  In the warmth of His love, in the light of His truth, the old has gone and the new has come.  A new day has dawned and we will rejoice in our Lord Jesus all this day!

Thank you, Lord, for dying and rising for me, for dispersing my sin.  Shine in my life, in all my actions and words this day.  Jesus Christ, you are the Light of the world!
