Look and Be Amazed!

by Desiree Bustamante

Just because you may not see progress doesn’t mean God isn’t working.

“How long, O Lord, must I call for help?
But you do not listen!
‘Violence is everywhere!’ I cry,
but you do not come to save.
Must I forever see these evil deeds?
Why must I watch all this misery?
Wherever I look,
I see destruction and violence.
I am surrounded by people
who love to argue and fight.
The law has become paralyzed,
and there is no justice in the courts.
The wicked far outnumber the righteous,
so that justice has become perverted.”
Habakkuk 1: 2-4 New Living Translation

Christians have asked this question of God almost since time began. If you live in this world, you’ve seen evil, discord and destruction just as in Habakkuk’s time. We despair of any real change. We know that Scriptures proclaim the world will continue to decay into even worse conditions because of sin, so do we see any hope during our days on this earth?
Our Lord answers this for us:

“The Lord replied,
Look around at the nations;
look and be amazed!
For I am doing something in your own day,
something you wouldn’t believe
even if someone told you about it.”
Habakkuk 1:5 New Living Translation

I have seen and heard remarkable stories of God at work amid the world’s evil. I’ve also been disheartened by the misery I see. I hope you have seen God’s mighty power active on earth. Our Lord is working on every level imaginable, from our personal lives to the future of the entire world. He is Almighty God, who has the perfect plan and the ultimate power. Take a moment to see all the events of the day with eyes of hope and ask God to show you the awesome work He is doing through all the chaos. Look and be amazed!
