Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:105 English Standard Version (ESV)

My husband and I took a day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Trail Ridge Road is the main route through the park, connecting Estes Park on the east with Grand Lake on the west. The 48-mile trip takes you over the Continental Divide, with a 4,000 foot elevation climb in a matter of minutes from either direction. The views are breathtaking and the scenery never gets old.

Snow plows keep the road open for part of the year, but eventually the road is closed for much of the winter. The trees provide a guide for the snowplow drivers, but once the plow is above timberline, these tall poles serve as a guide for the edge of the road. The driver knows how wide the road is, but more important, they are aware of the edge of the precipice. Even if it’s not steep, going off the road can be dangerous.

God’s word is our guide in this life. By delighting in his law, we have guideposts that keep us from falling into the consequences of sin.

God’s Word – Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord and Savior – is our guide in this life. His time with us provides a boundless example of how we can live our lives in the peace of forgiveness and reconciliation from our sins.

How do we know where the road goes? The Holy Spirit – the Spirit of truth – is your guide in this life (John 16:13). Listen for the still small voice with a prayerful heart for counsel. We are comforted by the assurance that he will never leave our side as we experience the mountains and valleys of life

Today, as you travel on your journey, remember that you are never alone, even when it can, at times, feel that way. There are guideposts to follow, and God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – is there for you.

“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:20b ESV
