“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.”
John 4:35 English Standard Version

Early this summer, my family and I will be moving to St. Louis where I will be attending seminary. I started thinking about seminary about a year and a half ago, and started the application process almost a year ago. Ever since we visited St. Louis, in July of 2018, the only thing that has been on my mind has been moving there.

I’m excited, and impatient, partly because it is hard to know where you’re going, but also because you have to wait to actually go. Are you like me? Do you get caught up in looking ahead to the next thing coming up in your life? Not that looking ahead, and planning, is a bad thing, but do you let it keep you from serving, and ministering, now?

Although I won’t be in seminary for a couple of months, it does not mean I get a free pass to sit around and wait to start serving others. Just because I won’t be a pastor for a few more years does not mean that I have a few more years of free time.

We don’t have to be in career ministry…we’re all part of the priesthood of all believers, and as believers we are all responsible for sharing the love of Christ, and His gospel, with others. You may not feel like you are equipped, but you are.

It is okay to have your eyes on the next step of your life, it is okay to plan, but it is not okay to simply do nothing until the next thing comes along. There’s work to do! There are people to love, and serve!

There’s a gospel to share!

I am especially in need of this reminder. Right now is always the time to love, and serve, our neighbors, while sharing with them the good news.
