“Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.”
Psalm 36:5 New Living Translation

I’ve walked past this scene a few times. In fact, I’ve taken a picture of the Colorado skyline, from a parking garage, that includes this graffiti in the picture, but there was something else that caught my eye the day that I took this picture. It wasn’t the graffiti. It wasn’t the trash container, or all the electrical boxes fastened to the wall. What caught my eye were the clouds reflected in the window at the top of this picture.

This reflection hangs there like a painting in our homes. It stands in stark contrast to everything else that is happening in this picture.

Organized chaos is depicted in this photo. There is symmetry in the placement of the electrical boxes, the arrangement of the trash container, and the straight lines. There is also the chaos of the graffiti, the battered form of the trash container, and the random flower-pot.

Above this organized chaos is this beautiful picture of clouds.

God’s faithfulness, and his unfailing love, stand above the organized chaos of our lives.

There are times when our lives are best represented by the straight lines, and the well placed electrical boxes and trash container. Things are moving along splendidly for us. At other times, or maybe even at the same time, there is the chaos similar to the graffiti that seems to make no sense.

Maybe this picture describes your life.

The psalmist reminds us that God’s unfailing love, and his ever abiding faithfulness, reaches beyond the mess of our lives. Jesus’ death and resurrection make his unfailing love, and faithfulness, visible to us.

God’s love has entered the organized chaos of our lives.

As you journey through this life may you look above the mess and see the clouds of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.
