Needed: A Firm Foundation

Never on the Sand!

“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.”
Matthew 7:26  New International Version

What is your house built upon?  This beachcomber decided to build his shelter on shifting sand.  Most likely his house will not be there after this winter’s storms!

I pray that the house you are living in right now is built on something more solid than beach sand!  But Jesus’ words here are not just good advice for building houses.  Jesus’ words are to be the foundation of our very lives.  What do you trust for your salvation?  Do you trust in your good works and your own righteousness?  Or do you trust in Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for your sins?  His blood and righteousness are the only sure foundation for our salvation!

Or perhaps you have been spending a lot of your time building on the foundation of earthly security.  Do you put your trust and your time and investment in financial security and in your possessions?  Or do you trust and invest in eternal security in the Lord Jesus Christ, in an investment that cannot be stolen or destroyed?  His Word and promises are our only sure security!

Or do you put your trust in the hope that you are better than others, that you are not a “bad sinner” like some others that you know?  Do you think that because you are a little less blatant in your sinning that will open heaven’s gate to you to have fellowship with a holy and sinless God?  Or do you trust in the forgiveness that comes through Jesus, through His death and resurrection for all sinners, including you?  His forgiveness is the only payment that will atone for the debt of our sin!

In Jesus Christ is our sure foundation, our only hope and our only salvation.  All other ground is sinking sand!  Amen!
