They will be my people, and I will be their God. And I will give them one heart and one purpose: to worship me forever, for their own good and for the good of all their descendants. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good for them. I will put a desire in their hearts to worship me, and they will never leave me.”
Jeremiah 32:38-40 New Living Translation

A mousetrap has pretty much only one purpose, to catch mice. That is what it was designed for by its maker.

We live in a society that is obsessed with purpose. Our homes are filled with items that each must have a specific purpose, our activities usually have more than one goal, and our jobs must serve not only to provide for us but have meaning. We aspire to uncover our life’s mission so we feel like we are successful, and hope that mission results in our happiness.

God has really given us the most important purpose, to worship Him. That’s often hard for us to accept, because it seems so simple, just as it’s hard at times to accept that God loves us as we are no matter what we do in this life. He will always love us, and because of that love He does create purpose for each of our lives that will glorify Him…not us. When we make it our primary purpose to love, and worship, Him, we will find fulfillment and peace. It’s a perfect purpose.

Be joyful that you have been given the greatest purpose of all…to love and worship the Lord God, your Creator and Savior.
