Our Gracious Gardener

God’s daily bread is abundant for all creation.

“You cause grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for people to use.
You allow them to produce food from the earth—”
Psalm 104:14 New Living Translation

Have you ever planted a vegetable garden or sowed seeds on a farm? You plant the seeds, water and fertilize them, wait for the seedlings to break through the soil and then watch them grow. You nurture them all through the growing process until the fruit of your labor is ready to harvest.

No one on earth can grow anything without God. You may plant the seeds, but God makes them grow. He created the soil. He causes the sun to shine and the rain to fall, in just the right amount at just the right time, for the seed to grow into a healthy plant.

God designed the world so that, with work, we could grow plants for food, yet no matter how hard we toil in our garden, our efforts alone don’t force plants to grow. God trusts us with carefully planting, watering and fertilizing, but He causes the growth. God is the one that truly gives us our daily bread.

While God takes care of man, He also provides for all His creation. God causes an abundance of plants to grow, including grass for cattle and all animals that are necessary to man. In His goodness, He favored us with a variety of plants for our benefit and enjoyment that also give us life and energy.

“Then the LORD God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made.”
Genesis 2:8 New Living Translation

God created the very first garden and put man in it, granting him all he needed to sustain life. He continues to do that every day for us and for the animals. We ask God to give us all we need each day and pray that we will respond with thanksgiving to His abundant provision.
