“Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead. They left the cemetery after Jesus’ resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people. The Roman officer and the other soldiers at the crucifixion were terrified by the earthquake and all that had happened. They said, “This man truly was the Son of God!”

Matthew 27: 50-54 New Living Translation

At the moment of Christ’s last breath, when death had overtaken His body, the curtain in the Temple was torn in two and nothing could separate us from God again. So much power was unleashed from Christ’s completed sacrifice that there was an earthquake, rocks split apart, tombs opened, and the dead were raised to life!

“Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.” Hebrews 2:14

There was no denying that Jesus was the promised Messiah and King. The living power of Christ overcame every attack from Satan and Christ’s enemies, even as His life drained away. His sacrifice crushed Satan, sin, and death. Redemption was accomplished. Eternal life was secured for us.

That power still prevails to embolden our hearts, minds, and souls as we live for Him on this earth.

“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 1:19-20 New Living Translation
