“But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
2 Peter 3: 8-9, ESV
Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Hannah, David, Esther, Job, Peter, Mary, Paul. Some waited years for answers or guidance. Some suffered affliction and tragedy. All of them fell short in one way or another — as we all do (Romans 3:23). Yet, they remained obedient in the end, entrusting their lives to the author and perfecter of their faith.
I don’t know about you; but I find it comforting to read the stories and hear the testimonies of the faithful – be it Biblical or modern-day Believers. We were all created with a purpose: to bring God glory and build His Kingdom. How often we forget this is the reason we are here. Life becomes blurred by the hustle — overshadowed by worldly expectations, shortcomings and challenges. Our struggles and our “wait times” here on earth are not a surprise to God. We just forget that He isn’t bound by our time. Nor is His viewpoint ours. He’s sovereign and all-knowing.
In his book, Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis says with certainty: “I do not know why there is this difference, but I am sure that God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait.”
In a world of immediacy, accessibility and innovation, we’ve worked hard to eliminate the wait. Yet, God has intentionally created this space in our story to do some of His finest work. Whether preparatory, protective or a combo, wisdom and refinement are the goals. It’s in that time that faith is ignited, nations are saved, disciples are made and leaders are born. We are being made for the moments that will bring God glory and bring others to Him (Esther 4:14). Lord, help us remember your timing is perfect.
