Promises

Perfect Signs

How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation.
Daniel 4: 3 English Standard Version

Have you noticed that when a storm passes, we often see the rainbow that follows? Have you also noticed that people are genuinely mesmerized by these stunning displays of God’s handiwork? Rainbows are not just beautiful. There’s more to consider. This multicolored bow flashing across the sky cannot exist without light shining through rain behind you. There’s a lot of reflecting and refracting involved in this complicated, yet perfect process. What a wonderful sign and reminder to behold. Imagine Noah’s reaction when that colorful promise appeared in the sky. His light was shining through the storm, as it passed.

As the Creator of such beautiful artistry, God uses His brilliant design as a sign. His light shines through the storm.  I love this verse in Daniel, coming from King Nebuchadnezzar. Talk about someone with a dark past! Through it all, Nebuchadnezzar was restored. He lifted his eyes to heaven and blessed the Most High.

We may (and probably will) walk through storms throughout our life. Jesus does caution that in this world we will have trouble. But in the next statement, He says not to worry — to take heart for He has overcome the world. Sometimes there’s purpose in the storm. There’s something beautiful on the other side. As the clouds lift we begin to see a little more clearly. We’re reminded of His perfectly-brilliant promises.

So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11, English Standard Version
