Ready…. Or Not

by Desiree Bustamante

We want to be in the driver’s seat and choose our destination—now!

My niece loves to drive. She has a couple of cars,  made for her size, that she takes for a spin around her driveway. She also longs to drive her parents’ cars. But no matter how much she wishes for that, it won’t happen for quite a few years. Even if she understood all the mechanics of driving, she can’t reach the gas pedal or the brake, and she can’t turn the wheel far enough to complete a corner. Real driving will have to wait. She isn’t quite ready.

How often do we feel ready to face the next challenge in our lives? Looking excitedly for a new opportunity, we feel prepared, but it doesn’t come. We don’t understand why because we feel ready. Yet, we must wait.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10 New Living Translation

In today’s world, being happy through discovering yourself is paramount. Uncovering your skills, abilities and desires, and working to fulfill your dreams, is supposed to be the secret formula to lead a successful earthly life.

But that is not your purpose! It is not your plans and desires that God created you for, it is His purpose and will. He created those desires in you to serve Him. He gave you special gifts to fulfill the mission—the purpose He designed especially for you. As His dearly loved child, God will lead you where, how and when you should go to use those gifts in His perfect time for His perfect plan.

While you wait, continue to pray for His will and leading in your life. You will not be disappointed—He will use you to advance His kingdom.

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
John 15:16 New Living Translation
