Seeing Jesus
You can listen to today’s devotion by clicking on this SoundCloud link.
I invite you to reflect today. Consider your own reflection in still water. What do you see? What happens to your reflection if a slight breeze ripples a tiny, gentle wave across the image? How long does it take to regain a still clarity?
“Just as water reflects the face, so one human heart reflects another.” Proverbs 27:19. New Revised Standard Version
If Solomon was correct, and I think he was, today presents us a reminder of an amazing opportunity. If one human heart reflects another, wrap your head around this truth: As we are beheld and held gracefully by Christ Jesus, whose heart is love, we reflect his heart. Now that is something to reflect on (pun intended).
If you look closely at the picture, to the left of the dock, you can see the reflection of slender light poles. Each fixture is still illuminated, and you can see that light in the water.
Sometimes our reflection of Jesus’ heart may seem insignificant. It isn’t. If faith as tiny as a mustard seed can move mountains, reflecting even that much of Christ’s heart is also powerful. It is a blessing. It is a blessing to be so privileged. More important, it is a blessing to those whose lives we touch today. Your heart reflects the heart of Christ. Love. Joy. Hope. Life. Blessing. Resurrection. Victory over death. Courage. Self-sacrifice out of love for others. Servant heart. You add to the list.
Don’t stop there. Today is about more than a list. Today is about your life in Christ. Who reflects Christ’s heart to you? Is there a chance to thank them? Today is about the lives of others, lives your life touches. The lives into which you will reflect the heart of Jesus. They will see it in your eyes and experience it by your loving hands. Their hearts will warm as your heart reflects Jesus.
What Good News! What a Blessing–the Holy Spirit uses us to be a Blessing. Find some water today. Take a look at your reflection. Do you see Jesus?
