It’s Okay to Have Fun
You can listen to today’s Devotion by clicking on this SoundCloud link.
With the devotion’s title, you were expecting something about Christmas, right? ‘Season’s Greetings’ is reserved for the Christmas Season. There are other Seasons during the year. Who says we may not impart Greetings during those seasons as well?
Take Autumn for example. As a kid I loved raking leaves into piles, running, jumping into them, scattering them all over. And then do it all over again. Over and over again. As adults we pretend to be more refined. (Truthfully, I could go for a big pile of leaves right now). But alas….we decorate our houses instead. There is something about pumpkins on a porch! And a wreath of Autumn-colored leaves. And a hint of a not-to-distant night of fun and too much sugar. For the children, of course.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1. English Standard Version
What is it about human beings that makes us want to decorate our houses, inside and out, to reflect the seasons of the year, or the ‘seasons’ of human creation? Of course, we do take after our Father. Heavenly Father, that is. Have you read the intricate detail into which the Lord went in the design of the Tabernacle? Even down to the design of the Priests’ garments. Stella McCartney has nothing on the Lord!
God created us to enjoy his creation. He created us to be creative! He sets us free to create all kinds of ‘seasons’ that simply celebrate Life in his creation. Life is holy after all. It is God-made and God-breathed. Now, I am not all that creative, truth be told. Especially with decorating my house. But I truly enjoy watching you decorate yours! Enjoying the creative spirit with which God endowed you. Thanks! You brighten my day!
Enjoy this Autumn Season. Whether you decorate your house or not. You can decorate your heart and spirit. Sing a song of mirth and thanksgiving to the Lord (yes that is a hint at another ‘season’). It is okay to have fun!
