Facing Life’s Storms.

Moving in the middle of a severe thunderstorm is not fun!

The day my wife and I moved into our apartment was a wild one. Moving in itself is a challenge, but add lightning close by, with an absolute downpour, and it complicates matters further. We were determined though, and with the help of my in-laws we moved everything into our apartment after a few very wet hours.

Many times storms happen at very inconvenient times, both literal storms and spiritual storms. Storms don’t ask our permission, or if it’s a bad time. They happen when they happen, and there is not a lot we can do about it.

However, there is something we can do to prepare for those storms. We might not know when they are coming, but we know they are coming. We are not emotionally strong enough to withstand a severe storm. We crumble under pressure. If you let God handle the burden, He will carry you through the storm.

The fact is, it doesn’t matter how strong we are. We are not strong enough. Storms are stronger than we  are. Without God we are at the mercy of our storms. With God, as Matthew 7:27 states, our houses can be beaten and battered by storms, and yet they will not fall because the foundation upon which they are built is absolutely immovable.

“Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.”
Psalm 71:3 English Standard Version

When storms arise in our lives, God is waiting for us with open arms. We need to run straight to Him, and let Him be our shelter. Amen.
