“And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.”
Daniel 12:3 English Standard Version

I don’t like to share, especially when it comes to food. I was not fond of having roommates in college. Not because I didn’t enjoy their company, but because I’m picky when my stuff is shared or intermingling with other people’s stuff. I believe in respecting other people’s personal property.

Unfortunately, this is how many Christians feel about the gospel. We have our beliefs, and other people have their beliefs. It can be awkward, or uncomfortable, to share the gospel of Christ with others (especially loved ones). We don’t want any tension. We want to get along, maintain our relationship, and live at peace with one another. While it is good and right to want to take care of a relationship, and to get along with others, it is not good and right to keep the light of the gospel to ourselves.

“Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.”
Matthew 5:15 English Standard Version

As the verse in Daniel says, those who are wise shine bright. Those who are wise are people who belong to God. Not only do we have the light of the gospel, but if we use that light for the good of others then many people will be turned to righteousness and saving faith in Christ.

That is what the whole of our lives is about. Whatever our vocation may be, we are here to be witnesses of Christ and to bring glory to God. Let us not hide the light of Christ. Let us share it generously with a world that so often lives in darkness, that they may know hope in Jesus Christ.
