Surprise!…But No Surprise

Never question a mother’s intuition.

Our son and daughter-in-law are expecting their first child. Both of them are extremely excited for the birth of their son. Both of them are nervous about the birth of their son.

This is the first time that I have been a part of a reveal where the couple, not knowing what sex their child is, finds out if they are having a boy or a girl. In their case, both our daughter-in-law’s sister and a good friend knew the sex of their baby and prepared plastic golf balls that would reveal if she was carrying a boy or a girl.

I was sure that she was going to have a girl. Odds were in my favor having two grandsons already. I fully expected to see pink powder fly out of their golf balls, but once again, I will have a grandson, a grandson that I already love. A grandson whose ultrasound picture is pinned to our refrigerator.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Psalm 139:14 New International Version

Even now, removed from his parent’s eyes, their little boy is being formed by God in his mother’s womb. There is no one like him. Not only is his body taking shape, but his character is being formed. Yes, that character will be further forged by the forces of his life experiences, but his life is already in the hands of the Master Creator.

My daughter-in-law knew without a doubt that a boy would be revealed. If they have a second child, I will not question her intuition. Even more assuredly than her knowing that her child would be a boy, is the fact that God knows you. He fashioned you in your mother’s womb. He has brought you to the cross and the empty tomb. He has poured his mercy upon you. May God create in you a faith that has no doubt that you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
