The Dance of Light

“The light of righteous people will rejoice, but the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.”
Proverbs 13:9

Light is living to me. When I pick up my camera and take it into the wilds of creation or the canyons of city streets, I will often ask myself, “What is light doing?”

Light is active.

It moves.

It casts shadows.

The light had changed from the time when I first saw the shadows cast on this wall in my home. By the time I grabbed my camera and pressed the shutter button, the scene had changed significantly.

Though I will ask myself, “What is light doing?”, I have not thought of light rejoicing as Solomon does in this proverb. Light rejoicing, what a beautiful thought. And this light is not any light. It is the light that shines in people declared right with God through Jesus. Jesus, being the light of the world, rejoices in those who have been put right with him.

In other words, the light of Christ rejoices in you today, a person who knows the beauty of Jesus’ resurrection. That light which shines in you is doing something today whether you see it or not. Light cannot sit still. Christ is moving in you.

The light of Christ will progress throughout your day. The light of Christ that made you a child of God is dancing in you today. Can you see it? Can you believe it?

Some of us reading this devotion feel like the darkness is winning the day. We do not see the dance of Christ’s light working in us or around us. Maybe you are that person. Maybe darkness seems to be dancing instead of the light. Jesus’ resurrection declares that light wins even when we feel the darkness.

Could it be that light dances best when it comes into contact with darkness?

May you experience the rejoicing of the Light on your journey today.
